Tiksi. The photo story by Pavel Kolinsky.

Tiksi. The photo story by Pavel Kolinsky.

Proud to announce that today we start publishing the unique collection of the Czech photographer Pavel Kolínský’s stories about living in Yakutia’s Arctic, precisely in the Lena Delta. The first part is dedicated to the Yakutian sea port of Tiksi.

Pavel Kolínský’s photos taken in July of 2006, frankly saying, reveal the whole story. I could say, “No comments are required! Take a look and get the clue!” That’s absolutely true. However, I would like to say a few words. Read the rest of this entry…

A French balloon explorer Jean-Louis Etienne flying via the North Pole from Norway to the Siberian republic of Yakutia. By Francis Latreille

Jean-Louis Ettienne

YAKUTIA/SIBERIA, April 11, 2010 – Yesterday a 63-years-old French balloon adventurer Jean-Louis Etienne has reached Yakutia’s Arctic Circle and finished his 5-days Generaly Arctic Observer flight expedition done from Norway via the North Pole to Siberia.

In Saturday’s morning he reached the Russian Arctic coast in the area of Yakutia’s Ust-Yansky region. He was expected to land in Tiksi, but the weather (winds and fogs) changed his direction. He was blown eastward to the Ust Yansky region. By that moment he had got pretty tired. The weariness and thick fog on the route to Batagai, the Verkhoyansky region, forced him to land soon in the Northern part of the Yakutian region of Ust Yansky, hundreds kilometers north from the villages of Ust Kujga and Deputatsky.

He spent night in the Arctic nowhere, where temperature at night was below -30 degrees Centigrate.

This morning Jean-Louis Etienne and his balloon equipment was picked up by his support team and brought to Yakutsk by a helicopter.

‘By the Will of Genghis Khan’ is the first epic movie made by the Yakut director, Andrey Borisov, with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The official Russian theatrical premier took place on March 12, 2009. On this upcoming Friday, April 09, 2010, it will be shown on the National TV Channel “Russia.” Another big event for us, Yakutians.

Who is Andrey Borisov?

Andrey Borisov, the Yakut director

Well, Andrey Borisov is the person, whom I will not be ever tired of promoting. He is the famous Yakut dramatic art director.

When we say the Sakha Theater, it is immediately associated with his name. No wonder. With his first student work, the play “My Desired Blue Coast”, he made the Sakha Theater acclaimed in Moscow, St. Petersburg and many foreign countries. Read the rest of this entry…

Tiksi in May, Yakutia/Siberia

Tiksi, Yakutia’s Arctic sea port, in May is like Yakutsk in April, Moscow and Europe in February. Yet windy and snowy. But it’s time for snow to start melting partly and people to dress in less super warm clothes. No more polar nights. Instead, you begin enoying white nights. An awesome place to visit in Siberia’s North. See more photos taken in May of 2009. Read the rest of this entry…

March is already spring for Yakutia residents, even if it is still with snow, ice and temperature around -10C or -20C. Nevertheless, this is pleasant weather, we really enjoy at this period. Time for going out of the city and having BBQ.

The Friendship outdoor museum in Sottinzy is the most popular destination. Why? Follow the rest of the entry and find more info and photographs. Read the rest of this entry…
