March is already spring for Yakutia residents, even if it is still with snow, ice and temperature around -10C or -20C. Nevertheless, this is pleasant weather, we really enjoy at this period. Time for going out of the city and having BBQ.
The Friendship outdoor museum in Sottinzy is the most popular destination. Why? Follow the rest of the entry and find more info and photographs.
About the museum
The Lena-Friendship Historical-Architectural Museum-preserve is located in the village of Sottinzy, Ust Aldansky region (Yakutia/Siberia). 2 hours from Yakutsk by a car. Precisely, the museum was built on the right bank of the Lena River, right on the spot of the initial Yakutsk fort.
All museum attractions are outside. They are reproductions of the Spassky Church of the Zashiversky Fort and the boat of Cossack Peter Beketov, who is also know as the founder of Yakutsk. No less impressive are the old examples of the Yakut architecture. Inside the exhibited buildings there are displayed the accessories and attributes of the Yakut culture and daily life. Like clothing, worship, weapons, burial complexes, arts, etc.
In the museum you can also try the food at a restaurant specializing in the Yakut cuisine. One of the most memorable sights of the preserve is the observation tower on top of the nearest hill, from which opens a breathtaking view of the Lena River.
