Roman Sofronov is a Yakutsk-based fellow, who has his own YouTube channel with great videos displaying the life in Yakutia, the biggest Siberian|Russian region.
He’s got great black-and-white 8mm home videos of children made in an ordinary Yakutian|Siberian village called Ytyk-Kyuel’ in the Soviet time. Fascinating flashbacks! Enjoy the history of Yakutia.
I am really, really a big fan of Sakha Theater. I love everything they did, do and will do. Recently I got a fantastic CD solely dedicated to the Sakha Theater set design. That’s a presentation disc, that gives profound information about the theater, its decor history, artists and their works. Saying a big thank to ST for providing me with the disc.
In this post I am presenting Vladimir D. Ivanov, an art director of the Sakha Theater, who worked almost thirty years ago. Further, please, find his profile and images of his works. Read the rest of this entry…
A cool Hollywood movie with Colin Farrell is coming on wide screens soon. Yakutia, actually, a bloody part of its history, is depicted. Here is what Richard Laweson wrote in Defamer:
“Here’s a trailer for The Way Back, Peter Weir’s upcoming film about a ragtag band of men (and a girl) escaping the gulag in Siberia [read Yakutia's Kolyma]. It looks a fun, throwbacky adventure yarn, complete with soaring vistas and handsome, grizzled men.”
“Specifically Colin Farrell, who’s having an interesting, quieter second leg of his career. Gone are the cheesy star-maker thrillers, replaced by nimble performances in well-chosen indies. (He was terrific in, and a deserving Golden Globe winner for, In Bruges, and had a nice, unshowy supporting bit in Crazy Heart.) Ed Harris looks typically half-bearded and flint-eyed, and that cute little Saoirse Ronin shows up as eerily adult as ever as a lost babe in the woods.”
Hard to believe, but I created this set of photographs 4 years ago. Annually I add new pictures, not many, just a few. Currently it has 38 items taken between 24 Jun 2006 & 26 Jun 2010. Read the rest of this entry…
There is a great man living in Yakutsk. His name is Ivan Negenblya. He is the most honored Yakutia’s aviation worker. His lifetime theme was and still remains Alaska-Siberia World War II Air Route (info on Wiki). He wrote a lot of books on this topic. Besides, he’s got a great amount of historical photographs in his collection.
Currently I and many other friends are helping him to arrange his first international photo exhibition. Thinking to display ~200 archive photographs in Fairbanks, USA. A couple of days ago, I got some scanned pics so to start working on photo materials… and suddenly…
..Another fantastic idea descended upon me. Why not make Alaska-Siberia WWII Air Route Online Photo Exhibition? Funny, but I decided not to wait and have already registered the domain www.alaskasiberia.com. Now the website development is the matter of time. Oh, forgot to mention. The major Soviet part of the Alaska-Siberia route went through Siberia’s Yakutia.
‘By the Will of Genghis Khan’ is the first epic movie made by the Yakut director, Andrey Borisov, with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The official Russian theatrical premier took place on March 12, 2009. On this upcoming Friday, April 09, 2010, it will be shown on the National TV Channel “Russia.” Another big event for us, Yakutians.
Who is Andrey Borisov?
Andrey Borisov, the Yakut director
Well, Andrey Borisov is the person, whom I will not be ever tired of promoting. He is the famous Yakut dramatic art director.
When we say the Sakha Theater, it is immediately associated with his name. No wonder. With his first student work, the play “My Desired Blue Coast”, he made the Sakha Theater acclaimed in Moscow, St. Petersburg and many foreign countries. Read the rest of this entry…
