It’s getting really interesting. It seems the eYakutia – English blog is getting popular in my hometown, Yakutsk. Here is the news I was asked to share with you. I like it much, because it is about what I love, actually. It is about motivating school kids to promote their lovely regions with the means of Internet.

A week ago, the Republic’s Complementary Educational Center (SakhaEdu.Ru) successfully finished the 1st «My Homeland» Internet projects contest among high schools in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Siberia / Russia.

The contest mission was simple. Children were assigned to create websites dedicated to their homelands, i.e. regions, towns or villages. As a result, 19 schools from 10 Yakutian regions submitted their online projects for the republic competition.

So, who are the winners? See the list below.

Yakutsk Virtual Tour Demo at VisitYakutia.com

Yakutsk Virtual Tour Demo at VisitYakutia.com

The beginning of this week is amazingly full of interesting startups. On Monday, I wrote about YakutiArt’s Yakutia Wild Life comic strip project.

This time I am proud to announce the appearance of the new project called Yakutia Virtual Travel Guide. Check it at VisitYakutia.com.

On that resource, you will be able to see Yakutsk, the administrative center of Russia’s Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and walk across the city virtually.

Use arrows «<" and ">» to turn around. Choose places to view in the navigation bar located at the right top or on the map at the left top. You can also click on the white sphere you see in a image and teleport into that spot. Enjoy!

It’s only the demo. The virtualization of Yakutia is just started and it will be intigrated in the bilingual Yakutia Travel Guide website VisitYakutia.com. We need your support. Please, share the news!

By the way, the project is done in cooperation with Egor Fedorov, the almighty Yakutsk-based website developer and founder of PicaRus Studio.

PS. Yesterday, we installed the analytics… and, you know what, more than 1100 unique visitors from 35 nations for one day!

Yakut laika dog (Siberian husky) puppy in Yakutsk, Siberia, Russia. Photo by Ajar Varlamov

Great news! As someone said, «Oops, we did it again!» We launched the new website dedicated solely to the cutest Yakut laika dogs. Our dream became true. The resource is supported by Arctic Travel LLC, Lena Sidorova (a cynologist), Ajar Varlamov & me..

The Yakut laika is the unique Yakutia-originated breed of Siberian huskies. They’ve got blue eyes. They can run long distances for ever. They are the best hunters and herders’ helpers.

They are so wonderful and beautiful that they apparently deserve your attention. Let’s make them famous worldwide. Please, share this news with your friends and other interested in Siberian huskies.

The website URL is SiberianHuskies.co. If you would happen to forget the domain name, try addresses YakutLaika.com and YakutianLaika.com as well. All of them direct to one website.

By the way, right at the moment Yakut laikas are running the long distance from Yakutsk to the shaman tree area along the Lena River. Today’s outdoor temperature is -23C and everything around is white and calm.

Alaska-Siberia WWII Air Route. From Ivan Negenblya s Archive

Alaska-Siberia WWII Air Route. From Ivan Negenblya s Archive

There is a great man living in Yakutsk. His name is Ivan Negenblya. He is the most honored Yakutia’s aviation worker. His lifetime theme was and still remains Alaska-Siberia World War II Air Route (info on Wiki). He wrote a lot of books on this topic. Besides, he’s got a great amount of historical photographs in his collection.

Currently I and many other friends are helping him to arrange his first international photo exhibition. Thinking to display ~200 archive photographs in Fairbanks, USA. A couple of days ago, I got some scanned pics so to start working on photo materials… and suddenly…

..Another fantastic idea descended upon me. Why not make Alaska-Siberia WWII Air Route Online Photo Exhibition? Funny, but I decided not to wait and have already registered the domain www.alaskasiberia.com. Now the website development is the matter of time. Oh, forgot to mention. The major Soviet part of the Alaska-Siberia route went through Siberia’s Yakutia.

Futher, please, see more sample photographs. Here we go! Read the rest of this entry…
