On April 25, 2010, the day before the snowstorm, Mammoth Yakutsk Off-Road Club hosted the city’s GPS orienteering contest. Further, please, see the photographs of top participants. A team of Pokrovsk (in the first following pic) won the competition.

GPS orienteering is very popular in Yakutsk. Hard to recall, when it gained ground. I think, five years ago. All males/females, who do not spare their own off-road vehicle, consider it an honor to compete in collecting all marks with numbers (this time there were 72) faster than others.

Everything looks pretty funny. It is not enough to find marks by GPS coordinates. It is also highly required to touch a mark and a car at the same time, and all this act must be photographed. To reach a mark, a driver must get his/her car closer to the check point and, if space is still huge, stretch himself/herself as long as possible. People’s gold medal for Evgeni Plushenko, who made it up to the 2nd place in the male ice-skating competition at 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada, was presented in Yakutsk (Yakutia/Siberia) today, on March 27th. You think Yakutians are being frozen all the time in winter, don’t you? Wrong a little. They can also run and jump

The video was shot in the Chourapcha State Sports Institute. By the way, it’s one of the best athlete schools in Yakutia. Chourapcha is located on the way between Yakutsk and Khandyga. Churapcha is famous for the freestyle wrestling school, that gave the world three Olympic prize-winners, including the gold.
