Today’s pictures are not as great and awesome as in previous posts, but they are here to show what is happening behind my window… in the Russian city of Yakutsk… and what type of weather we have currently.
Oh, by the way, we are waiting for the big wave coming from the very south of the Lena River. More waters must be. Everything seems calm at the moment.
Photographs were taken during this morning’s dog walk, the last one in the evening from my balcony.
Ajar Varlamov rocks! Enjoy his new set of photographs dedicated to the current spring in Yakutia… with gorgeous snowdrops and ice floating on the Lena River. Spring pictures were mostly taken in the Kangalass Cape.
Near Yakutsk ice on the Lena River is already passing, reached the settlement of Kangalassy in the North, and everything was fine in Lensk in South Yakutia.
Ice float on the Lena River is like a big event in Yakutia, Russia’s Siberian & Far-Eastern Republic. People are happy about it and worry at the same time.
Happy as it means the spring culmination, the start of constant warm weather and a good reason to go out for shashlik (Russian BBQ), gather snowdrops and admire the beauty of ice drifting along the mighty Lena River. An awesome nature show, indeed!
Worry as spring ice melting and floating might bring the devastating flooding. You might be heard of Lensk that drown totally in 2001 and reconstructed lately by the Russian Emergency Ministry.

Here are pictures to show how the spring is progressing at my place, in Yakutsk, Yakutia/Russia. Indeed, on April 10th, we had just an ordinary winter-like day. On April 16, snow and ice roads started melting. In a week, there was no snow at all and trees began preparing for blossom. In May, the spring is already in all its glory.

Today is May 3rd, 2011 and we’ve got heavy snowfall in Yakutsk, Yakutia / Russia. Nature says the Lena River is about to open and the spring flood to come soon. Indeed, that’s the usual weather we go through every May.

It was almost the right time to say «Hello!» to summer, but winter said, «No!» When everything was melted and the sun was heating, the snowstorm happened in the Siberian city of Yakutsk. April 26, 2010.
Yesterday I took a camera with me. Decided to fix the final arrival of spring to the Siberian city of Yakutsk. Amazing! A couple of weeks ago there were ice and snow on the ground. Now no signs of winter, except the remains of melting dirty snow in the shadows of buildings.
Mostly dust, puddles, lowering sky, winds, the daytime temp like +5C or +7C. That’s the current situation. It seems ice floating is about to start on the rivers of Yakutia soon. When it will take place, it will be pretty chilly. Nevertheless, we are enjoying spring. Read the rest of this entry…

The Atlasovs are so creative and successful. They can construct any outdoor tourist complex wherever they wish. This time they decided to make a sort of ice sculptures town right there, where Yakutsk celebrates Ysyakh in summer. In the area of Ys Khatyn. They did it in the beginning of March. The place became popular at once.
March is the month coming after the extremely cold winter. Time for people to get out of buildings and enjoy warm weather, like -20C — 25C, and the period to drive out for BBQ. The truth is that any Atlasov’s entertaining outdoor project gets trendy.
